With 40 years in the air under its wings, Royal Brunei Airlines (RB), the boutique national carrier of Brunei Darussalam, will mark a momentous milestone celebrating its Ruby Anniversary this year. It is appropriate to express sincere gratitude to His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah Ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ’Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, His Majesty’s Government and RB Board of Directors for their active support and encouragement from the very beginning.

Throughout the years, RB has been known for its distinctive service that plays on timeless values and authentic Bruneian hospitality. From the first flight on a Boeing 737-200 on 14 May, 1975 to the futuristic Boeing 787 Dreamliner departure to London in December 2013, RB has maintained a strong foothold in the market – despite aggressive competition – built solely on the foundations of dedication, service and hospitality.

Marking its anniversary celebrations, the airline has a lot to celebrate today. The impending arrival of two new A320NEO aircraft into service in the second half of 2015 will enable RB to maintain its young and modern fleet. It will also cater the airline’s continued network expansion plans where last year saw its return to Ho Chi Minh City and Bali.

RB’s route map of 16 destinations out of hub, Bandar Seri Begawan has helped travellers discover exotic Asia and Borneo, enhanced through a journey filled with comfort and top-notch service.

Significantly RB is the only airline to offer a seamless Dreamliner from the Southern Hemisphere to the Northern Hemisphere, flying Melbourne to London in just under 27 hours. Breaking the journey with stops in Bandar Seri Begawan and Dubai provides just the right amount of time for passengers to stretch their legs and freshen up.

As the national carrier of the Sultanate and its major ambassador, RB’s recent image revamp and adoption of the boutique approach reflects its high standards of service and commitment. RB recently introduced a brand new livery and brand image, all designed to revitalise and reinvigorate while providing the narrative for an innovative boutique airline brand. This was followed by new heritage-inspired cabin crew uniforms which reflect the remarkable grace and authenticity of the region and of Brunei’s past, present and future.

A distinctive boutique offering, strategically positions RB as an airline that can stand out from its larger full-service and low-cost competitors. At the same time, the airline has become stronger and more competitive, giving its customers not just a unique product, but comprehensive services of the highest quality.

Much of the success of RB is also due to the ongoing support and loyalty of passengers that prefer a distinctive boutique airline offering. Helped by an outstanding multilingual crew known for their attentive service, RB further extends its outstanding hospitality and value by leveraging on a service rooted on its Bornean heritage.

After 40 proud years of service, RB is now set to move to a new phase, having developed a distinct boutique identity as an attractive airline operating in an interesting part of the world. The airline will continue to focus on exceeding customer satisfaction and delighting passengers with warm Bruneian hospitality. In summary, thanks to the enthusiasm, dedication, expertise, energy and commitment of staff, RB can look forward to meeting passenger needs in the future with great optimism.
