Roundup of Royal Brunei Airlines happenings.

Royal Brunei Airlines (RB) has placed a firm order for seven Airbus A320NEO Aircraft (together with three options) powered by Pratt & Whitney PW1127G-JM engines. Delivery of the new, two class premium layout A320 fleet will begin in 2018 and will be operated on RB’s regional network linking Bandar Seri Begawan with destinations across Asia. The formal signing ceremony took place on 5 May, 2014 at Empire Hotel and Country Club. Guest of Honour, and signing on behalf of RB, was Chairman Dato Paduka Haji Bahrin bin Abdullah. Also present and signing on behalf of Airbus and Pratt & Whitney respectively were Mr. Jean Francois Laval, Airbus Executive Vice President Asia; and Mr. Phil Ma, Regional Sales Director of Pratt & Whitney.

As an announcement of their new partnership, Royal Skies and Sushi Tei held several activities for Royal Skies members and diners at Sushi Tei Gadong Central at a lunch reception on 4 June, 2014. Diners participated in quizzes and activities such as sushi speed eating and sushi making competitions. Aside from this one special day, Royal Skies members can earn double Royal Skies miles when they dine at Sushi Tei with a minimum spending of BND15 from 4 June to 3 July, 2014.

Similarly, Royal Skies also recently signed with Freshco and held a special event for Royal Skies members on 13 June, 2014.

Royal Brunei Airlines’ official Facebook page has reached a milestone of 100,000 fans. RB’s Corporate Communications section held a get-together on 20 June, 2014 with local media and staff, to celebrate RB’s social media efforts that kick-started in 2009.

RB has partnered with National Insurance Company Berhad and Allianz Global Assistance to introduce the purchase of travel insurance online. The new online insurance service is available for purchase at following a successful period of trials. Customers will be able to easily locate the icon for travel insurance as part of the online booking process.

Designed for leisure and business travellers, the new travel insurance policy protects customers against unforeseen disruptions to their journey by providing them with 24/7 access to travel and medical assistance globally. The travel insurance purchase option is currently available only for Brunei residents who are travelling from Brunei International Airport. RB’s Corporate Projects team hosted an appreciation dinner for team members and staff of the RB Dreamliner project. Also present at the appreciation dinner was Acting Director of Civil Aviation Brunei, Hj Abdul Karim Hj Wahab.

Two young Bruneians, Ubaidillah Masli and Kevin On Yun Ming, became Royal Brunei Airlines’ 43rd intake of our Cadet Pilot Programme on 19 June, 2014. A signing ceremony to honour the start of their aviation careers was held at the Sejahtera Room, Royal Brunei Recreation Club. The cadets recently successfully completed an intensive screening process jointly managed by RB and CTC Aviation. They will now undergo aviation theory and flight training in New Zealand and UK with industry leaders, CTC Aviation.

Deputy Chairman, Mr. Dermot Mannion, along with Captain Saiful Bahrain Awang Bahar, Chief Pilot, and Head of Corporate Services, Aji Puteh, signed the training agreements on behalf of the airline.
